Chicago, IL – Jan. 5, 2016 – MAGENTA LLC a plastics injection molding manufacturer specializing in custom designed and produced closures, containers, components and drinkware – has announced plans to relocate its manufacturing operations from Chicago to Lockport, IL, 30 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County.

The company plans to start moving into its 122,500 sq.ft. Lockport building in April 2016 and have it fully operational by the end of June.  Magenta, now at 3800 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago will assume a former plastics injection molding facility at 15160 New Ave. in Lockport.

“MAGENTA’s relocation allows us to take advantage of a facility that was specifically designed for injection molding production and enable us to accommodate our customers more effectively and efficiently,” said CEO Robert Mallo.  He added the plant would be updated with advanced technologies and green initiatives that demonstrate its long-term commitment to the North American plastics industry and an expanding customer base.

The company expects to invest more than $700,000 to upgrade the single occupant, fully fenced building on 12 plus acres constructed in 2002. The renovated facility will include 30 ft. clear height ceilings; up to five silo pads with a potentially active rail spur; more than 6500 amps of power to accommodate more than 30 presses and robotics; five overhead cranes ranging from 10 to 40 tons; a fully outfitted quality control laboratory and tool room; new chillers, cooling towers and air compressors; office, conference and training facilities among other customer and employee amenities.

In making the announcement, Mallo acknowledged there would soon be a recruiting office at the Lockport location, bringing nearly 100 jobs to the community, which is easily accessed from I-355 and within close proximity of I-80. He said many current employees will transfer to Lockport, but other positions ranging from entry level to skilled engineers will be actively recruited. Recently, the city of Lockport was named one of the fastest growing suburbs in America by Forbes magazine.
